Wk 3 – Finding art

The frame we put up was on a 3 dimensional object. It was quite big and we couldn’t frame the entire object, which was a tree. The tree had a dull color with really no excitement when observing the piece of art. The texture of the tree was very rough and not smooth at all. Although the tree is boring and rough looking, it gives off a “natural” feel as to the tree has no specific direction it is going in. This shows the representation of how life can diverge into many different paths by trying new things. The paths you take can be limitless with no boundaries, just obstacles and challenges. Every part in your life is crucial in decision making. Before we had the frame up, it was just a tree and you look at it as, “oh just a normal tree” but as the frame was put up, you will focus on just that one section and with the proper time invested in discussing what the frame means, it can be endless. To determine what objects can be art is up to the person itself. We can have the same views but different perceptions of what the object means.

Wk 2 – Finger Painting

Finger painting was fun and not difficult at all. The experience was interesting as it kept on getting messy and unusual strokes came out. The project was not hard but when do you actually stop? I was contemplating if my painting was finished or not as I came to an end of what else I wanted to do. That was probably the obstacle I came across throughout the activity. As far as to other paintings I felt that my painting was simple and that was more than enough for me. I’ve seen some complex paintings in the past and they look 100x harder than what I did. Finger painting was not as hard as understanding what abstract really is. The project was liberating due to how freely you move and the restrictions that aren’t present.

Wk 1 – Maintenance Art

Performing maintenance art around the USU felt a bit strange because it isn’t common for I to clean a sculpture outside in public.

The difference of the cleaning the stairways of an art museum and flinging molten lead is that the visuals appear to contradict each other in your head. One can visualize someone cleaning an area for sanitation or the appearance of it, and on the contrary, they can visualize someone making a mess and possibly be acting reckless or “dirty” in the process of flinging molten lead

Cleaning can be considered as an act of art. Performing any act that you have an optimal goal to achieve, is art. Putting the effort to do something mad or excited, will show the outcome of what you’re feeling. It will most definitely affect the way you act throughout the activity, whether it be painting or washing the dishes, there is an end goal to achieve and in between the start and end your emotions will affect the outcome and what you just completed can be considered as art.

Women’s work will always be art. The term “mens work is art” is not quite often used. Because most “work” can be considered as male dominant, we expect it to be just normal “work” such as, working in an office, construction and possibly working for the government to some extent. Women’s work can be quite unique as to what they are capable of doing such as giving birth. Since it is no common to see a women work in a male dominated field, their kind of work shows the determination of what a woman may have.

EC – Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions

The art at this exhibition was very simple and calm all around. It was an amazing experience, as I walked around I found it very comforting, soothing and peaceful. This is a lot different from the Hollywood walk of fame Stars, because on the sidewalks it is very busy with people walking to and from store to store, It is definitely not a sanitary place to just sit down and relax and overall there are people on the streets that don’t stop asking for money by selling their damn mixtapes to you. Unfortunately the walk of fame will have more visitors due to the Stars and famous locations on Hollywood Blvd. Although the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions may not be as popular, can be considered more to “art”. The Stars on Hollywood Blvd. is nothing comparable as to the art shown at the exhibition, in that case, the Stars aren’t really piece of art but can be considered as an acknowledgement for certain celebrities or people that can afford it. In theory anyone with the money and time can get a star, but why get a star when you have art at the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions that is worth much more to go and experience than to have someone step over your name, literally.

EC – Maintenance Art at Vin Diesel Star on Hollywood Blvd

I chose to clean Vin Diesels star because he is known for his persistent characteristics throughout many of the movies in his career. Performing this act felt a bit strange and relieving at the same time, I never would’ve thought i’d clean a star on Hollywood Blvd, and it did feel a lot different from doing chores at home because I never usually clean something on the floor out in public which felt a bit strange while people walking. Cleaning the star was definitely a performance of art because it is a simple way to convey your emotions and feelings towards someone by appreciating them for who they are, in a form of cleaning their walk of fame star on Hollywood Blvd.
